What better time to talk about Family Worship than when everyone has to “social distance” from everyone but their family! Christy and Daniel talk about Family Worship, citing Deuteronomy 6 as well as the book Family Worship by Donald Whitney. We talk about how family worship has been a command for God’s people since the Old Testament and has carried through for generations, being a faithful part of the families of Reformers and Puritans. We talk about what is involved in family worship (Read, Pray, Sing). We also talk about the reality of Family Worship. it isn’t s a perfect gathering with the kids always well behaved. It also isn’t an 2 hour marathon. Our family worship time only takes about 15 minutes (while the kids are young). Listen in. Coronapocolypse (COVID-19) is a great time to start doing family worship!
This episode is recorded late in the evening while Christy made dinner for a family coming back from the hospital. Enjoy the background noise and extra banter while we talk about ministering to people throughout the week during coronavirus (COVID-19) and all the time. We were able to continue with business as usual (almost) while we are in this unique time where large groups aren’t meeting and businesses are closed. We wanted to take some time and talk about what House Churches should be doing all the time that become particularly important during seasons like this. We talk about staying in touch throughout the week, providing extra care for the elderly and sick, and generally supporting one another as a church. We also talk about how we are functioning for worship gatherings while “social distancing” is in place.
House Church isn’t always easy. Just because it is a good way to be a biblical church does not mean that everything will go smooth right away. House churches are still made up of people with a sinful nature, people who have hurts and unmet expectations. Also, a lot of pastors haven’t been trained to shepherd in the family environment that house church provides. What is more, establishing a healthy “DNA” in a house church network takes years. On this episode we talk through the difficulties that come with house church and the blessings that come with overcoming those hardships.
Recorded back in 2017, this first Episode is Daniel and Christy Samms discussing Church as a family get together. We point out the sad reality that so many who grew up in church have since fallen away. We discuss traditional models of Children’s Ministry in contrast to house church which integrates people of all ages into the gathering to be discipled, taught, and equipped together ad God is worshipped.
Daniel and Christy discuss the importance of teaching doctrine in any church, especially House Church. Christy gives a brief review of the new book, "You Who?" by Rachel Jankovic and the book's commentary on modern thinking. Daniel addresses modern thought from Isaac Newton to Immanuel Kant to Descartes to Schleiermacher, pointing out the fact that Scripture stands and is knowable objectively as God's self-revelation. We talk about objectivism over subjectivism and the enduring nature of God's revealed Word. Enjoy!
